Be Sun Smart This Summer

Sun Safety

Both UVA and UVB rays can damage skin and cause skin cancer. There are no safe UV rays. The amount of exposure to sun can depend on time of day, time of year, altitude where you live, reflection off of surfaces, and even the type of cloud cover. You can still get sunburned on a cloudy day. The American Cancer Society suggests the following to protect against the sun's rays:

  • Slip on a shirt

  • Slop on sunscreen

  • Slap on a hat

  • Wrap on sunglasses to protect eyes and skin around them
